Local Elevator is a new locally owned elevator company offering service, maintenance and call-back repairs for residential and commercial properties throughout Manitoba.
Although they’ve just hit the ground running, Shane Edginton and Peter Weir, owners of Local Elevator, have more than 30 years of technical experience under their belts. “I’ve been in the elevator trade almost all my life,” Shane told The Sun. Shane and Peter worked for a local elevator company that closed their doors five years ago.
Once Peter began working for a multinational elevator company, one factor became very apparent, “It wasn’t personal, the customer was left in the dark, so I figured there was a better way of doing things,” Peter said. “Through conversation with customers, we saw that now was the time to make it happen.”

“People are hungry for a local company, people want local, they’re tired of being pushed around by these large multinational companies and they just want more flexibility, honesty and integrity in the industry — so here we are,” Peter explained.
Quality service at a reasonable price is what every business owner hopes to receive when they hire help to keep their business serviced and afloat. Peter and Shane go above and beyond. These skilful tradesmen know what truly matters, including transparency, reasonable rates, and 24-hour service without the gross surcharge. Have your elevator or handicap lift serviced at a convenient time for your business.
“Being honest and open with the customers, having honest conversations, going down there to meet them, to show them, be there in person … we’re not just a sales person in the corporation trying to sell them unnecessary things,” Peter said. “[Expect a] significant decrease in cost, no big overhead, no headquarters, managers, the machine is the problem, as with any business. Having a smaller local company is much smoother.”

When it comes to the value of keeping money within Manitoba, both Peter and Shane agree that as a society, making the shift from choosing out of habit, to encouraging small local businesses, is an important step in furthering a strong local economy.
Peter shared a clear and straightforward point he observed from a sign displayed in a few local businesses throughout Winnipeg.
“For every dollar spent with a local business, 66 cents stays within the province. Every dollar spent with a multinational company, only 11 cents stays within the province. Supporting local businesses and bringing jobs to Manitobans and keeping the money here is everything.”
Shane delved into the significant ways Local Elevator supports the local community.

“When you’re growing a company it’s nice to give back from where you came from. All our supplies will come from local companies. Those National companies are just buying from whoever’s the cheapest. It’s easier for us to work with local companies and it’s a fine way to give back to the community also. More money spent in Manitoba is better for us.”
Peter added, “Our future is to grow, we want to provide better service for local customers, we want to build a reputation, we want to help the community. We work here and we want to donate to local organizations.”
As they expand, Local Elevator hopes to add to their team, offering a safe and enjoyable work environment for new teammates, not employees.
“We want to grow, have more employees — or I should say, coworkers — join us, providing them better places to work,” Peter said.
Growth is without a doubt on the horizon when work is paired with honesty and hardwork. If you’re looking to service or have a new elevator installed in your home or establishment, give these two gentlemen a call at (431)-202-4600, and expect nothing less than down-to-earth, personalized service.
