Dear Reader,
The Imperial Valley Small Business Development Center will host an event for both home-based food businesses and food truck businesses where a variety of business plans, business start-ups, and pre-planning trainings will be held. The training for home-based food business will be held on Monday, September 23rd from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The training for food truck businesses will be held the following day on Tuesday, September 24th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Home-based food business and Food Truck business trainings will be held at the Imperial Valley SBDC Center which is located at 1250 W Main St, in El Centro CA. Food-based businesses are often thought to be restricted to commercial spaces, however many entrepreneurs have been able to create successful food-based ventures operated from home or from food trucks.
Home-based food businesses encompass more than cooking skills, but also compliance with health and safety regulations and sustainable business plans. For aspiring home-based food business owners, access to these trainings is not easy, luckily the Imperial Valley SBDC is committed to assisting them by making these essential resources available. These trainings will provide a wealth of information to aspiring entrepreneurs on both home-based and food truck businesses.
Clients will be able to learn about the various regulations, permits, and requirements needed to run a home-based food business. For potential home-based food business owners to start their enterprises they must comply with MEHKO (Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operation) safety standards.
For many future small business owners navigating through MEHKO and Cottage Food regulations, permits, licenses, complying with health and safety standards, product production and sales limits, and overall development of a legally compliant business plan might seem daunting at first. Nevertheless, these trainings that the Imperial Valley Small Business Development Center will provide benefit prospective small business owners by assisting them while they navigate the regulations of food-based businesses and create a legally compliant business.
Food Truck based businesses are an iconic element of the American entrepreneurial spirit, and important contributors to our local economy. The Imperial Valley Small Business Development Center is dedicated to assisting existing small businesses as well as helping launch new small businesses, and an important component of that is by providing resources and training events.
Food truck business owners are required to comply with a variety of health and safety regulations, zoning guidelines, and many other regulations, which might be difficult to navigate by themselves. So it is extremely encouraging that the Imperial Valley Small Business Development Center will be providing trainings hosted by industry professionals who will share their knowledge and provide a solid foundation of success for aspiring food truck business owners. These training sessions will cover a wide variety of topics covering; local and state regulations on food truck operations, securing permits and licenses, compliance with health and safety standards, zoning and parking guidelines, and building a legally compliant business plan.
These home-based and food truck business trainings are essential for aspiring small business owners seeking to operate in the food industry either from home or from a food truck, providing the groundwork for future success.
Sincerely,
Gerardo Velazquez
