A Baltimore restaurant saw a big boost in business thanks to a famous social media influencer and food critic who visited and left an extremely generous tip.Everything Chef Joseph Burton cooks in his kitchen at Rooted Rotisserie in west Baltimore is made with love and intentionality, including his LIB wings, one of several items now highly rated by famous social media food critic Keith Lee. “I thought it was just a regular average to-go order,” said Burton, who is also the restaurant’s co-owner. “We treat all to-go orders the same, but we had no idea that this one was quite as special as it was.”Lee visits restaurants across the country, tries their food and makes videos rating the items one through 10 for his millions of TikTok and Instagram followers.A good review from Lee means a big boost in business, so Amanda Burton sent Lee an email, inviting him to Rooted Rotisserie, the restaurant she and her husband opened together in September 2023 at Hollins Market. “I just kind of crossed my fingers, said a prayer, and I just wanted him to come because I feel like Baltimore is an underrated food city,” Amanda Burton told 11 News.Lee visited the restaurant Saturday and had his family go in and order the rotisserie chicken, LIB wings, duck confit gumbo, truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, tinned fish and pineapple lemonade. He tried it, recorded his social media review, and then walked into the restaurant to greet the Burtons.”Seeing his face walk through the door, it’s kind of like having a dream that something would happen, and then it did,” Amanda Burton told 11 News.It was a dream come true in more ways than one: Lee left a $4,000 tip and an extra $2,000 to pay for every guest at the restaurant at the time of his visit. His rave review on social media has more than 2 million views on TikTok and it’s already bringing so much new business. “Our phone has been ringing off the hook, and our reservations have definitely had an uptick,” Amanda Burton told 11 News, as she looked at the booking system on her iPad. “This whole week, I am booked out. We had to close reservations.” Joseph Burton told 11 News they’ve never seen this kind of rush before.”This is, by far, the biggest boom we’ve had in our business,” Burton told 11 News.It’s a boom that’s bringing a much-needed boost to the small mom-and-pop business. “It has definitely been a struggle since we opened last September,” Amanda Burton told 11 News. “I used to stand outside the door asking people to come and check us out.
