Buckley business designs dress for Paris Fashion Week opener

Pink Daisy Prom, alongside sister business Pink Daisy Garment Care, designed and produced The Pink Daisy Signature Dress for 18-year-old performer Ruby Brown, who opened a fashion show in Paris with a live performance.

The dress was designed by owner Avril Davies, but she stressed it was very much a team effort.

“It was designed by me, but it was absolutely Pink Daisy teamwork,” she said. “Everyone played a part in sourcing the fabrics, organising the printing and making up the dress.”

Pink Daisy has been part of the Buckley community for more than 25 years, originally operating as a dry cleaning and garment care business specialising in wedding dresses, alterations and preservation.

The promwear side of the business launched three years ago and has since grown to include bespoke designs.

Ruby first approached Pink Daisy after being invited to Paris last year, when the team sponsored her with a red prom dress to perform in.

When she was later invited back to open the fashion show, she wanted something entirely unique.

The resulting design was inspired by 1960s fashion icon Twiggy and created specifically around Ruby’s image, music and personality.

One of its most personal features is the label stitched to the side of the dress, which carries Ruby’s signature, with the year printed on the reverse.

Avril explained that the printed image featured on the fabric was taken by Ruby’s father and shows her wearing the original red dress Pink Daisy provided through sponsorship.

“That photo was very important to us,” she said. “Ruby’s whole family are behind her in everything she does and we’re a family business too. It felt right.”

The dress was handmade by the Pink Daisy team in just three days, using highly skilled pattern-free techniques, after weeks spent trying to source materials as locally as possible.

Despite the business’s small-town roots, Avril believes moments like this challenge perceptions of what North Wales creatives can achieve.

“People see Buckley as a little town,” she said. “They don’t expect to see something designed here end up in Paris. But it has.”

Ruby, who is from Prestatyn, is a singer-songwriter and international model, already building a growing reputation at just 18 years old.

Further collaborations between Ruby and Pink Daisy are already in discussion.

“We feel very blessed to have been part of Ruby Brown’s journey,” Avril added. “It’s two family-orientated stories coming together and it’s something we’re incredibly proud of.”
