Jennifer Miles is opening J Miles Design & More at 1714 S. Minnesota Ave. in September. Miles closed her longtime business Consignor’s Designs at the end of last year because she planned to move out of state, but she decided to stay here. Tre Ministries is hoping to move forward with a scaled-down development in central Sioux Falls on a vacant block between Minnesota and Dakota avenues from 18th to 19th streets. The concept would combine retail, expanded space for its young adult programming and apartments for those connected to its programs. The original redevelopment plan had called for up to a five-story building on Minnesota with a parking ramp to support the development and about three dozen apartments along Dakota. The adjusted plan keeps the apartments, eliminates the parking ramp, adds a stand-alone retail site on the corner of 18th and Minnesota and adjusts the office building to two stories. It primarily would be used by Tre Ministries for its programming but also could lease out space.
Claire’s and Icing jewelry and accessory stores in The Empire Mall have started liquidation sales after Claire’s Holdings LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The two stores are among 1,372 locations that will be closed by Oct. 31 if a buyer isn’t found.

The company will continue to operate under its existing name for the foreseeable future as integration planning moves forward, according to a statement. Sprenger Midwest’s headquarters is at 523 E. 14th St., and there are other locations in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Moorhead, Minnesota.

KidStrong is a franchised concept with 160 locations that was founded in 2015 and is designed to help children develop a sense of independence, strength, confidence and character. It’s being franchised locally by Jonelle Clow, who plans to open her location in the Lake Lorraine development by the end of the year. Along with weekly classes for kids from walking age to 11 years old, KidStrong hosts camps and can be rented for parties.

The four-year program already includes 30 months outside of Vermillion — most students are located in Sioux Falls during that time — and beginning in the summer of 2027, the first 18 months of medical education also will be delivered in Sioux Falls. In addition to the existing USD Sanford School of Medicine campus at 1400 W. 22nd St., Sanford Health will provide temporary space for the program. USD hopes to construct a permanent building in seven to 10 years at a location to be determined.
