How long have you owned your business?
Lavigne: We started this business about a year and a half ago. We opened in June 2024 and it’s been amazing.

What inspired you to own this business?
Mayo: For Scrubbydubs, there’s kind of a couple different ways that it kind of came together. So, we saw the need for cleaning and wanted to have the entrepreneurial experience of being able to take a business and grow it. And then we wanted to pair that with people who liked cleaning. So, (we are pairing) people who can’t do it, they don’t have time to do it, they don’t want to do it, with people who love it. And then to be able to deliver that product in a way that brings kind of a sense of peace and relief to our clients, so they don’t have to do it and it’s one less thing on their list, is a really rewarding thing to be able to provide to people.
What makes Midland a great place to own a business?
Mayo: Midland is actually the place where we have most of our clients. There’s a lot of support here and a lot of opportunity here. We are part of the Central Michigan University Research Corporation building, and then we’re also part of the Midland Business Alliance, so there’s a lot of support there as well. We’re able to also provide cleaning services here, whether it be commercial or residential. So, Midland really drew us because of the need and the ability to have all that support from other people who are also entrepreneurs and also looking for different areas that they can help with.

Lavigne: We do provide services in Isabella County and in Clare County, but Midland is where a majority of our clients are, and our clients come aboard and then they refer us to their friends. And so it’s just been very welcoming, because Midland was like, “Yes, you are who we need,” and we’re like, “You are who we need.”
What are some ways your business is active in the local community?
Mayo: We do the WakeUp Midland (events with the Midland Business Alliance), and then we do the after hours, pretty regularly. A couple different ways that we do provide and interact with our local community would be, we actually provide services and cleans to charities or things like that. So we’re providing a free clean for a gala that’s coming up as a way to raise money for that gala. And then we also have different programs within our company where people can nominate their neighbors to be able to get a free clean. We also do free cleans for first responders or teachers or other professions like that. We’ll have drawings for that, too, so that they can get a free clean.
Lavigne: The nominate-your-neighbor program gives the opportunity to people in our community to say, “I think this person really deserves this, I see them working hard, and I would like to be able to give back to them,” and then it doesn’t really cost them anything out of pocket. They just fill out the form on our website, and then that’s it. Potential free clean.

What are some of your interests and hobbies?
Mayo: I love music. I play the piano and some other instruments. I also love to hang out with my cat, Sam, play with her. I love to cook and I like to dabble in some art. I like to be outside as well.
Lavigne: I am way less artistic. I like doing active things. I like biking, running. I like being outside. I like to read and listen to books. I’m a personal finance book junkie.
What are some local businesses that you work with that help make your business a success?

Mayo: Midland Business Alliance and then Central Michigan University Research Corporation – they’ve been great. And we also have referrals that come over from RE/MAX Midland, and other places that we use that help us run our business are the Midland Chamber of Commerce and the Clare Chamber of Commerce as well.
Lavigne: Hogger’s Custom did our car (detailing), and they’re out of Harrison. They did a phenomenal job.
Final thoughts to share?
Mayo: I do think the emphasis of the product that we deliver really is peace of mind that we bring to our clients. So being able to take one thing off their plate that they don’t have to worry about, and to be able to allow them to do other things, whether it be sit and watch TV, because you don’t have to clean your house, or go hang out with your kids at the beach, or maybe go make a snowman. That time that we give back to them by doing the cleaning is really valuable because time is limited.

Lavigne: Our cleaners are amazing people. They have great attitudes, they’re kind, they work hard, they’re just generally nice to be around. And so, I feel lucky that we have them.
